Construction Project Manager Skills Assessment
Construction project managers migrating to Australia must complete a skills assessment through Vetassess. A positive assessment is required before lodging a skilled visa.
Construction Project Managers plan, organise, direct, control and coordinate construction of civil engineering and building projects, and the physical and human resources involved in the construction process.
Skills Assessment Requirements
To be considered suitably qualified as a Construction Project Manager in Australia, you must have:
- an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor’s Degree or higher degree, in a field highly relevant to the nominated occupation
- at least one year of the past five years in post-qualification employment, at an appropriate skill level that is highly relevant to the nominated occupation.
Failure to meet both of these requirements will result in a failed skills assessment.
At Visa Go Australia we help you determine the likelihood of obtaining a positive skills assessment. As a client you’ll be assigned a dedicated case processor to prepare and submit your skills assessment.
AQF Bachelor’s Degree or higher degree
Highly relevant major fields of study include:
- Construction Project Management
- Building Technology or Science
- Civil Engineering (if civil project)
Majors in other fields such as Architecture could be considered on a case-by-case basis if the course includes the core competencies and employment is in the relevant context.
Project Management degrees without concentration in Built Environment / Construction would not generally be positively assessed for this occupation.
Highly relevant tasks include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinating labour resources and procurement and delivery of materials, plant and equipment
- Consulting with Architects, Engineering professionals and other professionals, and Technical and Trades Workers
- Negotiating with building owners, property developers and subcontractors involved in the construction process to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Preparing tenders and contract bids
- Operating and implementing coordinated work programs for sites
- Ensuring adherence to building legislation and standards of performance, quality, cost and safety
- Arranging submission of plans to local authorities
- Overseeing the standard and progress of subcontractor’s work
Categories of acceptable employment contexts include (but are not limited to):
- Construction Company
- Property Development Company
- Project Management Consultancy (construction)
- Government Authority
To be considered as a Construction Project Manager, the applicant must be involved with construction projects and in a position of authority to determine and direct the procurement of the construction projects. The position should involve establishing and monitoring the construction schedule, determining the human resources required, determine construction methodology to be adopted, have input relating to tendering, manage liaison with key stakeholders such as clients / consultants / authorities.
They are also expected to execute the progress reports and evaluate the risks of budget deviation and time delays, and determine the course of action required to mitigate these risks. In terms of reporting line, they are expected to be involved in construction supervision overseeing a team of site managers, project engineers, site foremen, tradespersons, and consultants.

Sue made our whole process stress free.
We honesty could not have done it all with out knowledge and support.
I have already been recommending visa go to friends who are looking to start the process.
Thank you so much again!!!
Sue was a dream to deal with and thoroughly checked over all of our documents ensuring that everything was of the exacting standards of the Australian Government. We could not have completed process without Sue. Thank you once again for all of your help.
Sue was amazing throughout, keeping us updated each step of the way, and providing detailed guidance at the start of each stage, which enabled us to start preparing and collating everything needed for the next part when the time came. Sue’s replies to the many emails that I've sent her way over the course of this process, were always prompt and patient, and nothing ever seemed to much trouble. Sue’s experience and understanding of the processes, timelines and the strict format in which things had to be done, meant that she was able to advise us and provide guidelines, which meant that when we submitted each stage, we were not having to worry about delays due to incomplete applications.
18 months on from that initial meeting - we have now been living and working in Australia for 8 months, and have recently changed onto a permanent visa.
We are extremely glad that we chose to work with Visa Go, and want to say a massive thank you to Sue, Darren and the team for all of their support and assistance throughout.
Darren always took the time to answer any questions and help me through the process.
Within weeks he had my partner visa submitted and now I have my permanent residency!
I couldn’t thank Darren and the team enough 👍

So, to Darren, Kimberley and Sue, thank you all for your support to achieve my Visa.
Our visa process took 11 months (as expected for the visa we applied for) and Sue kept us on track and up to date all the time, extremely organised and always happy to help and provide us with her support.
I highly recommend Visa Go Australia, we couldn't imagine trying to go through this process without Sues help and guidance. Samantha Mills
